"Within the Myth: Gendered Perceptions" Catherine G. Murphy Gallery
My studio practice includes: water and oil-based paint on paper, canvas and panel. I also work with a variety of sculptural techniques including modeling, mold-making, and bronze casting. I have shown my work in over seventy juried and invitational exhibits in the United States. My work is featured in numerous print and online publications. My sculptures and paintings reside in several private and corporate art collections, including the Radisson Corporation.
I work as an organizational consultant for small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and individuals. I have over fifteen years of combined experience as an administrative assistant and project coordinator. I have practical experience in documentary photography, database management, document and image editing, and correspondence.
Sources of feminine wisdom, compassion, and strength influence my mixed media painting, sculpture, and video installations. I alter found objects and integrate them into artwork that ranges from a very intimate scale to larger than life. I am inspired by writing and imagery about the subconscious, feminism, mythology, and religious and spiritual symbolism. Aesthetically I draw from the artistic traditions of Surrealism, magical realism, and the grotesque to question conventional perceptions of power and personal value.
